I co-founded Fight Health Insurance with Holden Karau — a free tool that uses AI to help people appeal denied health insurance claims. I came to it the hard way: after spending far too much time navigating medical systems for people I love, I wanted to build something that tilts the odds back toward patients.

💡 Many insurance denials are bogus, and insurers count on us not appealing. Fight Health Insurance lowers the barrier so appealing is fast, free, and doable on your own.

What it does

Snap a photo of your denial letter and the tool drafts a professional appeal in minutes — then you edit it, submit it yourself, or have it faxed for you.

  • Free for everyone — appeals are free to generate; optional pay-what-you-want donations support the service, and faxing a submission carries a small fee
  • Private by design — on-device OCR means your denial letter is read on your device, not uploaded
  • AI trained on what works — drafts are informed by successful appeals and peer-reviewed research, with multiple options to choose from and edit
  • Explains the denial — helps you understand why a claim was denied and analyze your policy
  • Nationwide — coverage across all 50 states, with 10,000+ appeals generated to date

My role

I co-lead the product alongside Holden, drawing on years of building AI-driven products and leading engineering teams. The motivation is personal for both of us — watching people we care about get worn down by insurance denials is exactly the kind of problem that’s both heartbreaking and worth building for.
